Do you mean from actual gunshots? There are about a gazillion higher-probability things to worry about.

Anyway, I was responding to the claim Swissvale is "low class". That is an overgeneralization.

There was a sobriety checkpoint set up last night near Edgewood Towne Center. This was covered this morning on WTAE. They also revealed during this report that there have been a number of robberies in the Regent Square area recently, which I was not aware of.

Swissvale has no desirable parts. Nobody ever walks into a real estate office saying they want to upgrade their life and choose to move to Swissvale, never.

Trevannion Ave is a squalid ghetto shooting-gallery these days, which explains why house prices there have collapsed to around $300K. Hard to sell a house with all those corpses laying in the street, the hookers on every corner, not to mention the light-fixture shop.

Yeah, but I was just being a little facetious.

I'm confused... 300k homes in the ghetto???? Is this post sarcastic or is this just like an imaginary ghetto like where someone was killed two years ago so everybody is still freaking out about it? In the "ghetto" where I live I doubt there is a 100k house let alone a 300k house.

Not true at all. As you head south on South Braddock, and you leave the city limits, the area of Regent Square on the right side of the street that stretches to I-376 is all considered Swissvale. You can't get much more desirable than that.

Crime generally follows those damn light-fixture shops.

They installed surveilleance cameras throughout Regent Square so there is some effort being made to stem the tide.

That was back in January. We discussed it a bit here: it was three guys, and the four local police departments cooperated on identifying and arresting them.

Edit: By the way, here is a nice little related story:

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pitt.../s_724550.html

They robbed a new pet-supplies store, and among other things took about $200 from a box the store was using to collect donations for a charity. So various people from the neighborhood made up the lost donations.
