Why not? It probably just means there are 4 employed adults living in the house, each of whom need to get to work in a place that isn't near transit. .

Or parents and two high school or college kids with their own cars.

The nice thing about city living is that you don't need a car for each person in the house. We get along fine with just one car for the two of us and even that car only gets driven two or three times a week, mostly on weekends.

So, you all work in the city?

We both work in tech so yeah, most of the jobs are in the city. I did interview a few years ago with a California company that has a big site up in Cranberry and I'm really glad that I didn't get that job. I'm much happier being able to walk to work. I'm sitting here in my office at home at 8:40 and will get to work around 9:00 so I can listen to my co-workers complain about their commutes while I just smile.

As much as I approve and support living in the city limits, I notice an air of smugness coming from some people who live in the city towards people who do not. I guess it happens both ways, though.

I agree! I share your love for old and crumbly .....but you humbly take it further ( without the holier than thouness I see in some others).

Sorry, while I generally agree with 95% of your thoughts on the forum, that sentiment reminded me of this T-shirt:

Or this one...

Mind you, I've been guilty of this sort of thinking before myself.

AA always has had a tinge of a ruin porn fetish, so when viewed through that lens his comments make perfect sense.

This has very little to do with city living. You don't need a car much as long as you can walk to a grocery store and are able to cycle or walk to work, unless of course you have a home office. That being said, you don't need a fleet of cars if you live in a location that has what you need close. That could be in the suburbs as well. One thing about Pittsburgh, you can live in a suburb that is more convenient to downtown than parts of the city. An example of that would be Millvale vs. Regent Square. You can walk to downtown from Millvale on a nice trail because it is so close. Takes about 30-35 minutes from the Millvale Riverfront Park.
