IF I do get to Pittsburgh next year (cross fingers) and I can't find a teaching job in Early Childhood Education maybe I could work in the mean time at these for private profit schools. I know that Tutor time and Bright Horizons are two of the big ones. I could even apply as an assistant director. Does anyone have any feedback about these schools?

Do they treat the children well? The staff? I'm sure pay is lower.

Just another thought of something I could do.

I have so much on my list to do when I go to Pittsburgh and this is one more place to visit.

I don't know much about those places. Just a suggestion - if you want any teaching job (especially in early childhood) around Pittsburgh...pick a district (or a couple), get in line, and start subbing there.

If you don't know anyone, subbing is how to get a teaching job here.

I've never heard of Tutor Time and Bright Horizons.

Here's a list of the learning centers in the region:

When my friend's daughter came back to Pittsburgh after teaching in SC, she worked at Huntington starting at $18/hr. That was a few years ago, no idea what they pay now.

I think this may be a tough time to move to Pittsbugh as an early childhood education teacher. Is early childhood teacher a preschool teacher? If so then I really think most of the jobs pay next to nothing. My mother was preschool teacher for many years. She taught at two different nursery schools. No benefits and certainly not full time. To be full time you would need to be a director of a preschool or maybe latch on to a Head Start program.

Most of the school districts are in budget limbo while they wait to see if the State reinstates the cuts.

Oh! Early childhood education? I thought she had a degree in primary education.

Early childhood education doesn't pay well in the Pittsburgh area. A director would make 35k, TOPS. An assistant director even less.

Early childhood means you're certified to teach prek-third grade

Well that really sux! I've even been thinking of going back to school and studying occupational therapy and then focus on children. I know that pays better and I'd get to be with children because a lot of board of eds are short on that as well.
