Hey
My family and myself are going to be relocating to Pittsburgh! the only thing is we have never been to Pittsburgh and have no idea about any of the areas. i would like to move to a nice family neighborhood where the schools systems are great!!! we have 2 children 10 and 6 so i really need a great school district! can anyone recommend some cities? my husband's job is in the city so we would like to be close to there maybe about 30 mins away.

Also we where looking in Shaler, can anyone tell me about this place is it a safe family place and how are the schools!!! thanks so much to everyone! we really appreciated any help we can get!!!

Shaler is a safe suburb that's generally nice with some parts nicer than others. The schools are average, but I wouldn't hesitate to send my kids to the schools there if I had to live in the district.

If you are looking in that region and schools are a priority, Hampton and Fox Chapel rate better. There are all kinds of price ranges in all three of those districts, from $40K to millions.

Here is one of my famous posts describing Shaler: //www.city-data.com/forum/pitts...24-shaler.html

Definitely worth reading.

If Shaler is in your price range, also consider Ross Township, which is part of the North Hills School District.

North Hills School District ranks right up there with Hampton and Fox Chapel, but housing is not as expensive and the commute is much faster---similar to Shaler in prices, distance to downtown, and overall down-to-earth character of residents.

Most of the northern suburbs are good.

Completely depends on your price range.

If you want help with where to live, you have to provide some idea of how much you can spend and whether you want to rent or buy.
