I'm right there with you...I love hot weather. Nothing beats going outside and having the sun beaming on you. My ex-fiance would always complain once the temp rose above 75..I'd would just leave her inside all day and go enjoy myself...probaly why i'm single now...lol

Looks like Buffalo would be a great place to live for me. Except I don't like Buffalo at all because it's so depressing.

Do most people not have air conditioning in Pittsburgh?

I think almost all new houses in the area (built since 1980) have central air conditioning, but most older houses don't. Many of those that don't have central air conditioning have at least one room with a window unit, though.

Is it comfortable living there in the summer w/out air conditioning?

It can be, although it is more humid there than in the Midwest. A fan and a portable dehumidifier should be enough for a single room most of the time, but an air conditioner is preferred when the temperature gets close to 90 degrees.

Highly subjective. Not comfortable for me, but some people who like warmer weather do fine.

It's also highly dependent upon your home setting. With some shade available it would be much more doable. In my case, the back of my house faces south with not enough shade in the summer and no good place to put more trees. So this house gets pretty hot, then the good insulation retains the heat. While it would be possible to ventilate better (with an attic fan, say), it's not likely for the main floor to be maintained below the outside temp, at least in the rear bedroom and the main living area. When that outside temp is in the mid-high 80s, or 90+, that would be pretty uncomfortable IMO.

It's also pretty humid in the summer. So the A/C helps with more than just the temp because it works partly by removing humidity. You can remove some with a dehumidifier, but really, I don't think the cost of running that is going to be significantly different than a small window A/C unit.

Could we experience an extended heat wave the rest of the month?

Pittsburgh, PA Expanded 15-Day Forecast

Pittsburgh, PA 15205 Month Weather Report - AccuWeather.com (http://www.accuweather.com/us/pa/pittsburgh/15205/forecast-month.asp - broken link)

15 day forecasts are usually as accurate as a magic 8-ball, but the weather models seem to be picking up on something.

This heat wave is going to start this week and will very slowly meander east over the next few weeks. Hence it will be a long streak possibly once it gets hot. At least it shouldn't get as bad (hopefully) here as in St. Louis.
