This has been a cursed project and an eyesore for a long time now, but the new(ish) owner is saying everything is lined up again:

'Starting to rock 'n' roll' on hotel's addition

44 weeks sounds like a long time to me, but hopefully at least a lot of the exterior is done this year.

It's only about the 42nd time they've said this, so I'll believe it when they ACTUALLY START.

That whole process has been a disaster.....

And I still find myself calling it the Hilton as probably many Pittsburghers still do.

People will probably be doing that for 30-40 years.

Heh, yesterday someone was going to Piatt Place, asking where is that. I said it's the "old new Lazarus building". It can't be the old Lazarus building because that is actually Highmark's Penn Avenue Place on Stanwix and Penn. Of course that's really the old Horne's building. And so on.

20 years on at least (I dunno when it closed) people are still saying Gimbels Building. AFAIK Gimbels was closed when I moved here in 1991.

When dealing with non-locals I'll probably be fine, but to anyone from around here I'll be saying Hilton. At least until they build another Hilton, which I think will eventually happen.

Of course that will be "the New Hilton, where X used to be" for the next 30-40 years as well.

Nah, I think the new Hilton will be the extra convention center hotel they've been looking for. I don't think that has a "x used to be" spot really, does it?

I'm sure we'll come up with something. Is that the parking for the Courtyard Marriott? That would do (where the Courtyard Marriott Parking used to be).

Nope Simply the "Convention Center Hotel/Hilton"....I know people who still call the Westin Convention Center "The Doubletree" and I still think of it as that, so when someone says "Doubletree" nowadays I have to stop myself and remember the Ramada is now the "New Doubletree" and that the Westin is No Longer the WM Penn as well...
