Recently I've taken interest in skyscrapers, and from looking at PittsburghSkyline.com - Original Photographs from the Great City of Pittsburgh by Matt Robinson, which has many awesome, breathtaking photos of the buildings downtown, it makes me appreciate them even more. So what is your favorite looking building in the city?

I have a feeling everyone will say PPG Place, or maybe the Cathedral of Learning... PPG is probably mine, just really stands out.

I like Fifth Avenue Place. Some may beg to differ. I like it. It speaks of art deco. It has a pinkish tone to it with green windows and that cool spire on top. It received a bit of crititicism back in 87' when it opened because people did not understand it. It has grown on people in a good way.

The Gulf Building, built 1932. It was the tallest skyscraper in downtown Pittsburgh for many decades.

Allegheny County Courthouse and Jail, 1888. Tallest in Pittsburgh in the 19th century.

Here's another favorite of mine: The Bell Telephone Building (still stands downtown, just couldn't find a modern picture. That will have to be rectified on my blog!)... Check out the cute little row house sitting next to it.

I like the Gulf Tower too. It is a tall building, but is dwarfed by the nearby US Steel Building, both in height and in brawn. It looks like a pencil beside it. If it could be shifted towards the center of downtown it would look even better.

Default Cathedral of Learning

I have always been impressed with the Cathedral of Learning. Just a magnificent building.

Fifth Avenue Place
I agree completely, I like how it is a mixture or shops and offices. It also really stands out whenever one sees the lights on it at night time

I like the Grant Building

But the PPG building is a cool 80s skyscraper that will age well with time.

Gulf building is also my favorite.

I also have always liked a lot of the old bank buildings on Fourth Avenue. Particularly this one.
