The Bloomfield indie house will be closing either late this year or early next year. Another one will be openinig. (I thought thier prices were steep anyway.)

Also in the article Jerry's (in Squirrel Hill) will be giving away vinyl this weekend.

CDs are becoming extinct. DVDs are next, with companies like Netflix going to online streaming of movies.

I know. It's sad. I still like to have a hard copy of a CD or DVD though.

I think that hard copies of information are essential, whether it's books or audio/video recordings.

Nice guys, sad to see them fold but I did give up on physical media about two years ago and haven't regretted it. I realized that I only ever used CDs once to rip the MP3s and then stored them away and just started buying the MP3s (mostly from Amazon but sometimes directly from artists).

I found the prices at Pauls to be completely reasonable especially when you compared them to other cities or even other Pittsburgh stores like Eides. Glad to see someone will be taking over. One of the cool things about Pittsburgh is amount of record/cd stores still around.

I still like to have a physical copy with the artwork and such, I am a big fan of the vinyl that comes with a digital download.

I do agree that I'm glad someone will be taking over. As far as thier prices, I found thier userd CDs to be close to regular price as a new CD (unless they really weren't used.) I usually find stuff at The Exchange. Anyway, Paul's will be missed regardless.

As far as owning a hard copy, I'm afraid my computer will crash and everything gets lost if I don't have it on CD (unless I do burn it on a CDR)

I back everything up to a NAS box on my home network and if I bought it via Amazon, I can alway re-download it for free.

That won't last forever though! There were many purchasers of downloadable content for many gaming systems (most notably the original Xbox) that bought content only to discover that could never re-download it again.

While I like to use "the cloud" for things and streaming for others, but nothing beats having a hard copy that I have 100% control over (well, until the power goes out that is ).
