The fact that mental healthcare is treated like a joke in this country has a lot to do with it. Our "have a pill and shut the f*ck up" mentality has jacked up my generation and many after that.

On a local level, you have to wonder what the lack of sunlight does to a population's psyche. Not that's the sole cause of course, but you have to wonder.

That can't be it. MOST of the cities on that list are super sunny.

Phoenix, Ariz
Fresno, Calif
Wichita, Kan
Jacksonville, Fla
Denver, Colo
Miami, Fla
Mesa, Ariz
Albuquerque, N.M.
Sacramento, Calif
Tucson, Ariz.
Colorado Springs, Colo
Las Vegas, Nev.

All very sunny cities! That's 12 out of the 15 that are sunny!

Being originally from the southwest (where they receive nearly 300 sunny days a year), I've noticed that living in Pittsburgh (which during fall-spring can bring months on end of cold, wet, grey, and gloom) has had an adverse effect on my mood. I think I may have a somewhat milder case of SAD.

I think that may have less to do with sunny days and more to do with the mortgage meltdown, which hit Vegas, AZ, and CA much, much harder than it did here. If I paid $350k for a house and 5 years later it was worth $100k, I probably wouldn't be thinking too highly of my life either lol. Combine that with unemployment that is well over 10% in Vegas and parts of CA and it doesn't paint a pretty picture.

I didn't claim sunny days cause suicide.

Who knows. Some of those sunstroke deaths could have been intentionally self-inflicted.

It's so freaking hot in a lot of those cities, you want to die.
