Hello everyone --

My girlfriend and i have decided to be spontaneous and celebrate New Years in Pittsburgh.

Right now, our schedule is completely wide open, and we're looking for a few suggestions. We'll be staying at the William Penn Hotel from 12/31-1/2.

So we need help:

1) Downtown locations for New Years parties?
2) What is open on New Years Day?
3) Any events going on?
4) Any recommendations in general?

I personally enjoy architecture, the "urban" lifestyle, good restaurants, history, etc.

Our budget is fairly open.

Night was perfect. We had a few drinks at sharp edge , an Italian place, and we were right by the stage for rusted root/fireworks, when the ball " went up." We also did the andy Warhol museum earlier in the evening.

Now everything seems closed downtown, so we're considering going to a nearby neighborhood like shadyside... Especially the watch the steelers-browns game to quietly blend in...

Any recommendations for places to go in or around shadyside ??

EDIT: we've been told to go to southside and Carson st . Again, and suggestions are welcome!

The Harris Grill and 1947 Tavern are two good hangout places, basically across from each other on Ellsworth. Bites and Brews is an even more casual side to 1947 Tavern.
