Following up on the other thread regarding trash disposal. Does anyone know of a place to LEGALLY dump construction material in west hills/south hills area of the burbs? I don't have enough stuff to make renting a dumpster worth while, but is too much/too heavy to dump in the garbage. Nothing toxic, just some leftover damaged 2x4s and mud bucks/drywall scraps. I'd be happy to pay a few bucks to get rid of it, especially if someone wants to come get it, but I could also haul it myself in a couple of trips.

Waste Management has bags that you can buy at Lowes and then arrange for a pick up. It is called the Bagster.

Bag cost: $30
Pick-up cost: $100 last time I looked it up.

I know there are some places in McKees Rocks that you can take stuff to and dump it legally, much like using a dumpster just hauling it yourself. There may be a place like that in your area? It'd be cheaper than the Bagster.

Yeah, that's too expansive for the amount I have. At that price I'd be paying more to dispose of the stuff than it originally cost to by the materials.

Find a Maronda plan under construction, use one of their dumpsters, they might fish through it and use some of your garbage. Go at night.

Lol. Too funny.

I think that was one thing that people missed when our (non-Maronda) plan was completed- no more dumpsters to throw their random junk in.

Yes, I could do that as there is a plan only about two miles away. I was trying to be ethical though. As you said, I don't want to be responsible for someone's new home containing 2x4s that had spent the past year out in the rain.

Try throwing out metal file cabinets, the garbage men won't take them. I had to pay 10 bucks per cabinet to haul them to a Cranberry disposal company.

Really? Our guys take about anything it seems, although I never tried with metal file cabinets. They do make sure not to take a bag of yard waste though.

We also have pretty good "set it by the curb the day before trash pickup if the weather's nice, and watch it disappear" service on this road.

Here is the place in Mckees Rocks that someone else mentioned:
ABC-EZ: Dumpster Rental and Transfer Station in Pittsburgh, PA
I took my stuff here and you just back your truck up on the ledge and throw it all over. There is a base charge of $55 and that covers you up to 1 ton.

Or you could try to give the stuff away on freecycle. You would be amazed at the stuff people will take and find uses for on freecycle. I was planning to put my drywall scraps on there when we finish our project.
