Okay, you long-timers, fill me in. I just moved here a few weeks ago. I have found the Pittsburghers that I've met to be incredibly generous and kind, most of them have bent over backwards to be helpful to my family. Honestly, if the people here weren't so fabulous we would have run away screaming weeks ago.

But you get the same people in a car and they turn into Road Warrior! I've never been honked at and flipped off so many times in my life! (And I just moved from Boston!) I'm generally a pretty good driver (especially compared to my husband...) but I'm also that lady in the minivan who's battling two toddlers behind her in their child seats, so I get the stinkeye a lot!

I'm intrigued by the dichotomy. What up with that?

Jen

That's kind of sad... does that imply you hate just about everything except the people??

We've had a particularly tough transition, Boylocke.

Put it this way, if we believed in signs from the universe, we would have accepted that other job offer in Vancouver!

But I think people are pretty important... maybe the most important thing about a city.

Aw, what's happened? Just bad coincidences or was Pittsburgh at definite fault? When you say Vancouver, do you mean WA or BC?

I don't need to go into it so much. But basically we were in real estate hell for the last nine months. Sold our house, bought a house, lost our buyers, had to back out of house, repeat about nine times...

But we've recently moved into a house in Mt Lebanon and things are looking up. Now if I could just find someone to unpack all these boxes...

LOL. Well I'm really glad to hear things are picking up. BTW, don't mind the last poster, I have NO idea what that's all about. jhpretiss please keep us informed on your progress, even if you have to send me personal messages, I would very much like to hear how things are going for you as time goes by. If there is anything I can personally show you, let me know.

PS. I don't do unpack...... LOL :P

Hrm... I experience this very seldom. Maybe because I'm a Pittsburgh driver and fit in with the chaos better? Maybe once you start driving like us (that's not really a good thing) people will accept you more. :P

Pittsburgh drivers are different, I'll agree. I pulled over last evening to let firetruck go by (pull right for sirens and lights, y'all) and people were honking and swerving out from behind me into the path of the firetruck, which had lights and sirens on and was pretty hard to miss.

And it's not so much that drivers are agressive--not like Boston or LA--it's almost that they're afraid. They have a hard time merging without coming to a complete stop first. They get confused by who goes when at 4-way stops. They don't pay much attention to signs that say "Right Turn Only" or "No Left Turn". You'll get used to it after a while. It'll make you crazy, but you'll get used to it.
