From P-G: Pennsylvania's seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate rose in September to 8.2 percent, which was higher than the national unemployment rate of 7.8 percent.

It was a one-tenth of a percentage point increase over the August rate of 8.1 percent and caused mostly because of a large increase in the state's labor force, which added 29,000 people. There were 23,000 more people who reported they are working but also 5,000 more people who said they were looking for work.

Pennsylvania employers reported they had increased the sizes of their payrolls by a net gain of 17,800 jobs during the month.

It's good that people here in PA feel confident enough to rejoin the workforce and look actively for jobs, but this may take away one of our selling points soon.

Too bad the allegedly "pro-business" Tom Corbett is too busy chasing smokestacks to do anything about corporate tax reform. I bet if he did that, then job growth in Pennsylvania would be even faster than it already is, and fast enough to absorb all the new workers.

I am not sure what you are referring to here? Keep in mind the young folks are VERY well read on things such as pollution and that may have more importance to them because they are so connected to information all the time. That being said, be careful about labeling an/or just blanketing about smokestacks. It isn't as cut and dry as you may think.

On the state level, maybe, but so far regional job growth has been strong enough to keep Pittsburgh ahead of the state and nation when it comes to the unemployment rate, and from Chris Briem has explained, it appears the local unemployment count may actually be exaggerated as well.

What makes Chris Briem's statistics better than others? He seems to have some antidote for any negative news. It is a fun little read though and gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling that some people seem to need.

it's pretty cut and dry that making the state a better place for business is better than making it a better place for one or two businesses.

I'm a little dubious about national numbers around election time but perhaps that's the cynic in me.
