We seem to discuss every surrounding neighborhood but frequently gloss over these two. The thread asking about neighborhoods with quick access to Rt. 28 got me thinking more about these areas.

What do you know about Morningside & Stanton Heights - transit options, shopping/restaurants nearby, pet friendliness, general neighborhood feel, safety, etc? Has the area changed much in the past few years, or mostly stayed the same?

Morningside is really nice, though I generally (erroneously) think of it as being part of Highland Park. Stanton Heights, I admittedly know nothing about. I actually got lost in that neighborhood two weeks ago.

Morningside is pretty nice thesedays. However, I think the reason why people don't bring it up is that it doesn't have a big business district. Aspinwall is more walkable and has suburban schools and isn't that much further from the East End.

From what I know, Morningside is an older neighborhood by Highland Park without a business district with a lot of older Italian families living there. I've always though Stanton Heights was a middle class African American neighborhood with suburban style housing options. I'm not extremely knowledgeable on either really though.

As others have suggested, both neighborhoods seem to go unmentioned because they are quiet, have little entertainment/business and are mostly residential. Both are quite nice, absolutely safe and in a great location if you want to hang out in East Liberty, Bloomfield or Lawrenceville.

I would say that they are unknown gems, but I actually think they are known, just not spoken about a lot. Long term, I have no clue, but both have stayed the same for the six or so years I've been here, and I'm sure they'll stay the same for the foreseeable future. Good little neighborhoods.

Not exactly correct, Morningside defnitely has a small business district including a Rite Aid centered near Greenwood St. There are a lot of Italians in Morningside, the Italian population there is higher than in Bloomfield.

Stanton Heights lacks a business district and is a mixed community racially- a lot of middle class Italians, Jews and African Americans predominate up there, the southern section of Stanton Heights may have a majority of blacks.

I think Morningside has improved a lot recently.

Closer to the Garfield region, there is a majority of black americans. Otherwise, I've seen Stanton Heights to be a mixed middle class/working class neighborhood. I've never had any issues with safety at any hour that I've been out of the house.

Is it really a "business district"? I'm only aware of the Rite Aid, VFW, and a bar. I don't even think there are empty storefronts for future expansion.
