Is there an Irish candidate. No non Irish has initially gained the office of mayor via election since William McNair in 1934. McNair was also the one who broke the long Republican stranglehold on city government. Every non Irish mayor since McNair gained the office after the incumbent either died, or resigned.

There are rumors that David or Greg Caliguiri will run. Finally a non-Irish mayor.

"No non Irish has initially gained the office of mayor via election. .." She didn't get the mayorship by election, she became mayor when Caligiuri died.
