Drexel Wants Discount Bus Stops Moved « CBS Philly

You might think Megabus riders had some kind of contagious disease. I remember this very same thing happened in Pittsburgh last year. How exactly is the Megabus stop any different than the corners where people stand waiting for SEPTA or PAT?

I would hate to see this location moved because it's very convenient to 30th Street.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Thousands of people use the Bolt and Megabus stops near 30th Street Station to travel to and from Philadelphia, but Drexel University would like them to come and go from somewhere else, fearing they will discourage the development it has in mind for the area.

The bus stops are spartan — no infrastructure, just long lines of people waiting to board bargain-priced buses to New York and Washington.

In a statement, Drexel says it fears their presence “will deter entrepreneurs and companies from wanting to locate their businesses” on the surrounding property, which Drexel owns and wants to make an “innovation neighborhood.”

Yeah, the title can tie it to Pittsburgh. Some lobbies don't want Megabus. That is what it is about. Students need a bus to ride, so they can move around and learn. Give them a break, they are all walking out of school with a $100K debt to deal with. Welcome to the new greedy world. It is all about how much people can take from everyone. Banks are the worst of course.

It does tie to Pittsburgh because the same thing happened here. You mentioned students which made me think Oakland might be a better place for the bus stop. Then again, being stuck in Oakland at 3am is much more dangerous than being stuck downtown.

I do remember they wanted to change the Megabus stop where it would be close to the Gateway stop on the T, but the deal fell through.

In fact the stop by 30th street is very convenient because it's close to Drexel as well as the University of Pennsylvania. My reason for posting this in both forums is many people use the Philly to Pittsburgh route. I know whenever I take it the bus is almost filled to capacity.

Hopefully if they do make Megabus move it will be somewhere near or close to downtown.

To me an “innovation neighborhood” would be embracing these new, efficient curbside models of transportation.
