I think for the most part Penn Hills is a fairly nice area. Coming east from Pittsburgh into Penn Hills there are some of the "worst" areas of Penn Hills, although nothing too dangerous as long as you get past what they call East Hills (pretty bad there). I can't say I've seen every single part of Penn Hills, but I've never felt even the least bit nervous or anything like that, at least for driving thru there. Not sure about Penn Hills High School outside of them having very good athletic teams. Most people seem to think it's not a very good academic school, but I've never heard any actual student claim this so I'm not too sure as far as that goes. It's pretty convenient in proximity to the city, 376 is probably the fastest way to get downtown, but it gets jammed up real bad in rush hour, but there are other ways to get downtown from PH that aren't terribly long. Rent's seem to be affordable as well if you're looking to do that.
the areas around Wilkinsburg are getting rougher every year, but the areas near churchhill are still ok but the school is not so hot, Woodland Hills, has alot of violence. So if the school is not important, just be careful what part you go too, me personally, I prefer not to go through any bad areas to get to nice area, that is why I am heading to the north part of pgh.
Try to get closer to the churchhill area if you must live in pennhills, churchhill is very beautiful and once was very prime, but the school district is woodland hills, look them up on greatschools and google them as well, your see what i am mean then.
Can someone give me the art of town to stay away from due to crime? I really don't feel like being shot.
