Gorgeous scenery, affordable cost of living, 4 seasons, top professional sports teams, not overly crowded...

Agreed. I think Pittsburgh's overall quality-of-life is well above-average, but I think there are better places which do a better job of mitigating the city's shortcomings, such as having a better mass transit system, less litter, less blight, less urban sprawl, less parking chairs, etc.

I'd personally give Pittsburgh an 8.5 out of 10. I'm sure there are places that would receive a 9+, although I'll admit I've never lived in one.

Nah, there's no best city. Pittsburgh is pretty great, though.

Ya know, been thinking quite a bit about people that come and complain about the Pgh area. In the last 4-5 years I have been traveling with my wife regionally. Columbus, Buffalo, Rochester, DC, Baltimore, all the hot spots. People there seem to have a life style that they enjoy.

I have a great Frat Buddie that lives in Fredonia, NY. Retired, lives on a vineyard, gives tours, raised 3 great kids, loves where he lives. Another friend lives in Butler, PA on about 6 acres, loves it.

Ah, never mind.

Different areas suit different folks. I was absolutely miserable living in Northern Virginia but adapted to Pittsburgh like a fish to water. Conversely when I was living IN Northern Virginia I encountered numerous Pittsburgh expatriates who did nothing but proclaim how much better things were in NoVA than in Pittsburgh. I'm glad I didn't listen to them.

This is probably the most subjective question ever. Depends on your likes and dislikes and a million other things. For overall quality of life it's pretty good and I'm very happy here. It has problems like everywhere else, but I think our problems are more manageable. One thing we take for granted is that we don't have extreme weather like fires, earthquakes, hurricanes, or tsunamis. Maybe a weak tornado touches down once in a while. At least after a snowstorm, the house is still standing.
