Ludwig van Beethoven: Ode an die Freude/Ode to Joy 1 - YouTube

Per Pittsburgh House Histories on facebook:

"Many Troy Hill residents are thrilled that Rialto Street, one of the few ways to get in and out of their neighborhood, is to be reopened to traffic this Monday. The street, which has a 28% grade, has existed since at least 1850, when it was mentioned in minutes of the Duquesne borough council (Duquesne borough extended along the Allegheny River and East Ohio Street between the present Heinz plant area and Millvale before it became part of Allegheny City in 1868). It was then called Ravine Street. These photos from 1913 and 1914 depict Rialto Street. The three-story white building was demolished around midcentury, and a used car lot stood on its site until recent years. The women in long black dresses may have been a bit warm, as the photo was taken on June 5, 1913.

Yep! And open in both directions (which was seriously in question as recently as 1-2 weeks ago). A big success for the neighborhood, and a testament to what collaboration between all of our public officials and residents can do.

But ultimately the real winners here are East Enders, who finally have the easy access they've been clamoring for, to the greatest neighborhood in Pittsburgh.

P.S. Your choice of music has officially given your real-life name up (connecting the FB / C-D dots). I am kind of stunned that we have no friends in common -- such a small neighborhood to not have even any vague aquaintences in common!

I figured that would happen, although technically that isn't my "real" name in its fullest.

Any idea what the situation is in the traffic "circle" in front of Billy's? The memorial's been gone for a while, but I haven't heard anything about the Troy Hill Civic Association moving forward with their plans to redesign it.
