While I was out and about driving my car to running errands, I couldn't reconcile the OP's annoyance with people holding doors open for her with her wishing men offered her a seat on the T. Both are chivalrous actions.

Must be the Armstrong County influence.

I'm not annoyed that they are holding them open; I'm out of sync with how long they are willing to stand there so it makes for awkward moments. I hope that clears up any discrepancy.

In all fairness, giving up my seat to an able bodied women on the bus or T would probably lead to a lot more "awkward moments" than holding a door for too long. Frankly, I'd feel like a creep.

Speaking of the door holding, I've noticed the same thing, and have found that it's best not to rush. If they want to stand there holding the door open for 30 seconds, they can go right ahead.

The one aspect of Pittsburgh etiquette that bothers me is the handling of four way stops: for chrissake, you don't have to wait for someone to come to a complete stop before you go, just ****ing GO!

This post conjures memories of public transportation innuendo.

I wish people would rush when I stop my car for them to cross the street!

I would accept or decline your offer with a polite "Thank you." What kind of responses would you anticipate? I'm curious.

It's only a matter of time before it happens in my hometown Sydney, and if you knew Sydney, you'd know why most locals are begging for it.
Congestion charge definitely for the better in central London. Don't worry though any such thing here, there is 0 reason outside of a delivery London to be driving in central London as it's probably the most connected city in the world in regards to transportation whereas it's seriously lacking here.

Though to be honest, I'd be completely fine if they had a charge for weekdays in downtown Pgh...

Portland is no highway panacea. I spent 25 minutes going 7 miles last Friday around 3pm heading south from downtown. I asked the rental guy which way I should go, and he said all ways were congested. It is a great city though

I hold doors open for boys too. Is that considered weird? It's just the way we swing downunder, I guess. And 10-ish feet would be my approximate distance rule of thumb. As long as I'm not in a rush. Not that I've ever actually thought about it consciously.

This is a totally wacky thread. All it is missing is a troll

Fair point! "Accept" is a better term here.
