For an urban experience, and being close to West Mifflin, some of the safe areas of the city of McKeesport might be a suggestion. I think its pretty safe in the area above Tom Clark Chevy off of 48, and the Tenth Ward is grungy but not dangerous.
Is it not an easy trip to west mifflin due to traffic? The distance is only 6-8 miles depending on what routes you take.

And I forgot to mention that we would not want to be all the way out towards west mifflin. We are originally from the north hills area and my wife would be traveling over that way occasionally, so we are looking for an area in between.

What hours would you be commuting? That makes a big difference with traffic.

It would vary. Some days it would be early morning around 6 or 7. Other days early afternoon.

Route 51 is really stop and go all the way out to West Mifflin, its not an easy trip although not too long.

Brookline or Dormont could certainly be easier to make it to the Liberty Tubes for a trip north than points east or south of West Mifflin.

Thank you. I'm coming from I95 traffic in DC area so I'm excited to be getting back in the Pittsburgh traffic scene.

Which part of the North Hills? If it's the Fox Chapel side of the North Hills, somewhere around Wilkinsburg would be best. If it's the West View side of the North Hills, more towards Mt. Washington would be best.
