Humans have only had real civilizations for about 12,000 years. This nation was founded in 1776. Somehow Pittsburgh has been been a hub for cool stuff for 16,000 years.

It's a reference to the Meadowcroft Rockshelter they mention in the next paragraph. Very interesting place, hugely important for the archeology of earliest people in American, and not far out of the city.

Gas stations and movie theaters, really? Maybe that's the result of Pittsburgh being a preferred test market for businesses.

Road maps doesn't surprise me considering how difficult outsiders think it is to get around.
