Wow, an article that is both depressing (story about "ghost mothers" whose children were murdered; violence...) and uplifting. I knew about her work with community children but didn't know the back story about her own art, made from "the street."

I got to see her spoken word performance at the mayor's inaugural and was totally blown away. She has some serious talent.

Here's someone who is getting out in front of the problem and working toward a solution. She's using her creativity to help change the circumstances in her neighborhood, and she's having an impact.

Amazing stuff. Art therapy, magickal transformations from cast-off trash. She sounds like somebody I'd find in a Poppy Z. Brite novel about New Orleans. Thanks for the post!
