Pros = everything.
Cons = none.

Really. The state inspections are state sponsored extortion.
I'm sure a garage lobby will pump millions into a campaign to fight having the free money gifting laws taken from them, however . . .

Inspections are cheap, so what is the big deal? I am fine with it and for the most part don't like a strong arm government, but I do want the roads to be safe. People are dopes and they don't pay attentions to brake wear or really anything, so we need to inspect that each year. Just common sense. If people were smart, then we wouldn't need it to be mandatory.

I think they are only talking about the first two years after manufacturing.

I had an old dump truck that was rotted away. It ran and stopped like a champ, but there was too much rust to pass inspection. I would love to have have that back.

The pro is that people would save money. The cons are that people would neglect their cars, and pretty soon the sides of the roads would be littered with dead cars just as they are here in Georgia.

Coming from Ohio, I absolutely hate inspections. Our car failed its first inspection because they found a 1/4" hole in the muffler. We took it back to our mechanic in Ohio and told him we needed a new muffler. He literally said "why do you want a muffler?" If a mechanic questions a repair, you know it isn't needed.

Inspections check for unnecessary things just to nickel and dime car owners.

Doesn't a hole in the muffler have the potential for letting CO get into the passenger compartment of the car? The exhaust is supposed to go clear to the back of the car because it isn't good to inhale.

I think keeping inspection is fine. Law should be for car less than 5 years old or up to some X miles inspection need not be done. I hate when mechanic says inspection failed and you have three days to fix it or pay for inspection again. Usually I end up fixing issues at the same mechanic and they rip me off since they know I don't have time shopping around. I am not sure if three days is law or not. If so then law need to be changed to give two weeks to fix issues.
