It is what it is. Be glad it's just a temporary inconvenience. Imagine if the Washington Junction lot was going to be permanently closed. With that being said if all they're doing is repaving, then I don't understand why the work couldn't be done from like 10 PM to 6 AM.

Very true. I think the issue is that they're downsizing Washington Junction to 100 available spots while construction is happening... opposed to 250 they used to have. And they're trying to grow it to 300 some. So that may be why 100 extra cars have showed up, possibly. Who knows.

Asphalt plants will not run an evening shift for that small of an order.

If you're so against paying, yet don't mind walking a few blocks (I fit in this category), do a little research and find a neighborhood street within a 10 minute walk of a station and park there for a few months. I used to do this for the Potomac T station, parking on some of the side streets off of Potomac (heading towards Banksville). I would imagine Beechview has similar options. If you're a fast walker, you could park on the far block of Illinois or in the spaces at Begg Snyder Park which are used as overflow by the residents most of the time anyways (not one of the more popular parks, rarely anyone there). I lived in this area a few years back and doubt much has changed.

I've also pretended to be parking at the mall then going to the T but if your commute starts before the mall opens this probably wouldn't fly.

How about the Park and Ride on 88 and Grove Rd?

Looks like a pretty big lot, although I don't know when it fills up by.

It is also St Anne's fair this week so their park and ride is closed. I have been parking at Castle Shannon this week due to that.

The 88/Grove Road Park and Ride (Memorial Hall) is $4 (?) a day now. They do sell a monthly lease but I'm not sure how much it is.

And it appears the Castle Shannon lot may shut down for 1-year beginning as soon as 11/1 to accommodate a planned apartment complex (http://www.post-gazette.com/local/so...201506190111):

Quote:
The committee heard a presentation about a 152-unit apartment building planned for the Castle Shannon park-n-ride lot. Lynn Colosi, consultant to JRA Development Group, said the “best case” scenario has construction on Shannon Village starting Nov. 1 and taking 18 to 24 months.

Construction is expected to close the park-n-ride lot for about a year, she said. A parking deck will be built next to the eight-story apartment building, providing 541 park-n-ride spaces (34 more than the existing lot) along with 208 spaces for residents and visitors. The building will have studio, one- and two-bedroom units with rents of $1,000 to $1,300 per month. The ground floor will have retail space.
