Noticed a couple of townhomes off merriman ct and south shore ct between 16th an 18th streets. How is this area? Google street view seems to show a relatively quiet neighborhood with well kept houses. Also how bad are the trains by the three rivers heritage trail along the river?

The trains on the lower tracks of South Side have grade crossings at S 9th St. as well as S 18th St. Safety regulations require that the conductors blow their whistles at all grade crossings.

I used to live on S 18th near Carey Way, several blocks away, and yes, the trains going by there are a bit loud.

While not always the case, trains do not currently whistle on 18th as there is now an exemption to the requirement to whistle at grade crossings when said crossings are at a signaled crossing with a gate in a residential area.

Overall it's a fairly quiet area down that way.

Oh really? That's good to hear. Any idea how often these trains come through?
