Have you seen the graffiti art in question? I know this is vandalism by definition, but his work is actually quite nice. There is one on the side of a building near 11th and Sarah in the South Side. I think he did a few by commission but hasn't been able to convince anyone to pay him for his talents since. Bummer.

Without a permit or permission from an owner, it is against the law and should be stopped. Not everyone wants to see graffiti everywhere. Some people like things nice and broken windows works.

I think it was the stuff he was painting on trees along the river trail rather then on buildings.

The one on Sarah and 11th I believe he was asked to do. It's an elephant right?

I personally like his work, and believe that there is room for street artists in certain areas that are set aside, but in this case he made a mess of public property. It seems to be more of a failed attempt at Bansky/Sheppard Fairey like work, but he doesn't have the cache of either of those, and ends up looking more like just another graffiti artist.

Actually an independent analysis of broken windows policing in NYC from 2010 through 2015 showed that there is no empirical evidence supporting your conclusion (http://www1.nyc.gov/assets/oignypd/d...010-2015.pdf):

Quote:
While it is not possible to know conclusively whether quality-of-life summonses and misdemeanor arrests impact violent crime, OIG-NYPD, after a months-long analysis of six years of summons, arrest, and complaint data over time, can now state: OIG-NYPD’s analysis has found no empirical evidence demonstrating a clear and direct link between an increase in summons and misdemeanor arrest activity and a related drop in felony crime.

Throwing in my 2 cents because I too crave attention like Barron Batch.

I like(d) the elephants, but they're everywhere now. 11th and Sarah, Carson and 24th, all over 15th street, etc. It's the same thing over and over - no variety. At that point it's no longer art, it's tagging and not graffiti.

The bike trail vandalism was the final push from art, to annoyance, to nuisance.
