Tech companies continue to look towards Pittsburgh’s talent pool

Having realized the benefits of being in close proximity to top universities like
Carnegie Mellon University and University of Pittsburgh, tech giants like
Facebook, Google, and Uber expanded into the region. As a result, tech
companies across the U.S. are looking at Pittsburgh as an attractive location to
grow their companies. Recently announcing interest to expand into Pittsburgh by
the end 2017 was the 30 employee New Jersey-based healthcare information
technology startup, Bellrock Controls. Also, the rapidly growing Excel4Apps, an
Excel-based financial reporting software company for Oracle announced plans to
relocate from the South Hills and lease 6,000 square feet at 3 Crossings.

Default Pittsburgh: Stop 1 for the Millennial Trains Project

You know I'm a serious advocate for all things transit.

Pittsburgh: Stop 1 for the Millennial Trains Project

The Secret’s out – Pittsburgh Is a Great Place to Live!

Pittsburgh’s public transportation system, affordability, and potential for social mobility have made it one of the nation’s most livable cities, and people are flocking to the city to take advantage of the job market and escape the high cost of living in bigger East Coast cities like New York and Philadelphia. The growth of the tech sector and jobs at high-profile companies like Google and Uber are attracting new residents to Pittsburgh. Developers are responding to meet the demands of this new population, and once-affordable homes are being turned into a new Whole Foods.

Default Public Transit, Pittsburgh Region's Biggest Transportation Concern

Ahhh, They Get It.

Survey shows public transit is biggest regional transportation concern

A public-private partnership is expected to have recommendations for transportation improvements in the 10-county area by the end of the year, but a crowd-sourcing survey shows a strong interest in one particular area: more public transit.

That is certainly true. It comes from the tough days when Pittsburgh was losing countless jobs every day. The old native folks have lots of money in the bank, live in modest homes and don't over extend. Sort of the opposite of the progressives that are deep in debt all the time and are trying to show how great they are.

Guess Forbes considers Pittsburgh, "Midwestern". There was a thread on that a while back. Always considered Pittsburgh Northeastern, but FORBES!

Default How Pittsburgh Is Becoming the Rust Belt's Social Innovation Test Kitchen

Interesting take on the Foodie transformation.

Quote:
How Pittsburgh Is Becoming the Rust Belt's Social Innovation Test Kitchen

With culinary energy like this coursing in, Pittsburgh has become the Rust Belt’s test kitchen. Bon Appetit not long ago named it the country's most up-and-coming culinary scene, and Zagat chose it as last year's top food town. The Millennials moving in are helping fuel the food boom. Pittsburgh’s median age is 32.8, years younger than the national median of 37.7. Moreover, 25- to 34-year-olds now make up 14.1 percent of the city population, up from 13 percent a decade ago, when twenty- and thirtysomethings tended to jet.

This is huge for NoWait, hope their team is ready to scale. This is an example of why I find it difficult to understand those who don't "get" the new market rate apartments being built in the East.

My issue with the app is that it doesn't allow you to 'get in line' until there is a line to get in, & have had places that I was going to jump from no wait to a 90 minute wait with no opportunity to use the app for anything prior to the 90 minute wait time. It's a great app otherwise.
