Hi, my boyfriend is mentally ill, he went to Western Psych for 2 weeks. I felt like they misdiagnosed him, and they put him on a antidepressant but he definitely has Schizophrenia and Bipolar so he needs something other than that. I'm kinda fed up with Western Psych.

He's at McKeesport Hospital right now because he tried to kill himself by taking a bunch of Klonopin and Xanax. I think they are unprofessional too. They need to ween him off of the benzos and they're giving him Xanax 1mg, twice a day. He needs help with Housing, and a job. He lost his trucking job and he couch surfs. A lot has happened to bring him to this point. I want personal reviews and references. Where is the best mental hospital? I need one that will help him with housing, can you please refer me to one of the best mental hospitals and maybe share how it helped you, or someone you know? It doesn't have to be in Pittsburgh but the maximum distance is 2 hours I'll travel away. Please help, I know my bf needs it and these hospitals are a joke. Thank you for any references.

you need to move on with your life and find a new man... pysch issues like this probably will be a lifetime problem sorry..
I am a Pysch RN... Good luck though and you seem like a great person for trying because I couldn't deal.. And WPIC is the best around here, your boyfriend needs to realize he's hurting his family for acting so selfish with his behavoir

I am guessing that he is or will be on welfare insurance, if so ask them for a recommendation, in my personal experience in dealing with family members is that they won't get better unless they want to. I am guessing that he is self medicating and not taking the correct medicine, that is not the hospitals fault.

I know if I was the way your bf is sick or not I would be booted from the house, maybe you need to set goals for the both of you and not put up with his crap. Remember behind every great man is a great woman

Yikes! That's an awfully large change to recommend when you know practically nothing about these two people. Maybe it's attitudes like yours that turned OP off to WPIC and McKeesport. Many mentally ill people can and do go on to live their lives perfectly fine via meds and/or therapy. That even includes some who have psychiatric episodes that have lead to hospitalization.

Anyway OP, if you're looking to get away from UPMC hospitals you might want to try Jefferson or St. Clair. I believe they both have psychiatric units.

From what I've heard from someone who has experience with those sorts of people the best mental hospital for miles is in Cambridge, OH.
