That would be great if they cleaned that mess up around that old dilapidated Giant Eagle. Maybe they could do something about all those flipped over shopping carts with people sitting on them all over the place and all that litter flying around.

Are you Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde??? You went from someone I never agreed with, and possibly outright disliked, to this person with a sensitive world view, and now back to snide comments.

GG, I think your kids hacked your account or something!

I'm not going to be happy until the ENTIRE East End is SoDoSoPa:

Are these new apartments going to be high-end non-affordable like the rest of them in the area?

Define non-affordable. They're likely to be market rate for one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the region.

Great news. Would love to see something similar done with the excess surface parking at the Home Depot in the near future.

Market-rate for the East End is like ~$1,500/month for a 1-BR apartment these days. I'm absolutely incredulous that developers are having no difficulty renting these units to 20-somethings at this price point. Pittsburgh isn't a city noted for its high wages, and I'm thinking we'll soon be at a saturation point where every higher-earning young professional that is capable of affording a luxury apartment in the East End and who WANTS to rent a luxury apartment in the East End will have a unit available to them.

My partner and I earn ~$55,000/year combined, and with student loan debt (we don't have wealthy parents), car payments, car insurance, groceries, taxes, etc. there's not enough in our budget for us to comfortably afford $1,500/month for a 1-BR unit as a COUPLE, so I'm floored by how many high-end units are being rented to SINGLES on this side of town. We pay <$1,000/month for our non-luxury East End 1-BR rental, and we can just barely afford that.

A home across the street from me just sold for nearly $400,000 to a "trust" from Southern California. I'm wondering how many out-of-towners are snatching up East End real estate and rentals as either long-term investment properties OR to house their spoiled college-aged and young professional-aged children.
