i think by nature i'm an optimist about mankind's society on planet earth.

but i support this comment - it is appalling how people become so angry, so passionate without any skepticism or conscious analysis of a problem or situation. they are ready to pounce, kill, destroy someone's career, or force someone who has worked for years to a leadership position to "step down" (and i hate that term) because that person did not magically make the unfair aspects of life go the way of a few.

Because people live in echo chambers. With the internet, they can much more easily choose to only listen only to views that support what they already think. People are afraid to say "You know, now that I see this other evidence/viewpoint, I've changed my mind". As if new information that changes your mind makes you somehow weak, or wishy-washy.

And this is the exact reason I posted about the hiring of police in a private manner. We will hear about some situation that a bunch of people in an echo chamber got together following some leader that has it out for a neighbor and BOOM that neighbor gets messed with to the point of them having to leave. The intolerance of different viewpoints is becoming scary and the laziness of people not reading real stories from actual sources is also scary stuff. People will base their viewpoints on what they hear on late night TV because it aligns with their view, yet they won't look at the source of the subject.

I don't actually have a strong opinion on the hiring of police privately, but I feel the pitfalls should be watched closely. I still feel that guy that got shot outside the Original Hot Dog would still be alive if they had an off duty officer there, but that is purely speculation.
