We are visiting family in Pittsburgh for the 4th of July and I'd like to view the fireworks with my kids with a great view but the least amount of hassle as possible (so we want to walk from where we are staying). We were going to try and get a hotel on the north shore, but they are all booked. We booked a room at the Sheraton at Station Square. Seems like if we get the right room we might be able to see them from the room. But if we don't where should we go to see them that we can walk to from the hotel?

My initial plan was to walk to the Duquesne Inclined Plane and go up to the top and watch them there, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of open space to set up camp.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I use to view the fireworks from my boat right next to station square. I would go out the hotel and walk towards highmark statium and set up camp there. You wont be disappointed with the view.

Thanks! I was thinking that right by Highmark might be a good spot too.

You could also ride the T (light rail, will be partially underground on this route) from Station Square to the North Shore - your kids may enjoy riding the train (depending on their age and if theyve often ridden trains before or not)

Is it against City Code to use anyone other than Zambelli for fireworks?

Don't they use Pyrotechnico (not sure if I have the name right). Both companies are based in New Castle.

Thanks. That's a good thought. They love the subway in NYC so they'd probably like this. We were planning on jumping on the train earlier in the day to explore the city a bit.

Our main goal is to be able to get back to the hotel without a hassle. Will the train back afterwards be super crowded? From what I've heard, the Duquesne Incline doesn't get too crowded for 4th of July even though the views of the fireworks from the top are some of the best with a city backdrop.

Anyone on here specifically view from the top of the incline and care to weigh in on how busy/crowded it is and how difficult it is to get back down afterward?

I don't know about the Duquesne Incline specifically, but anywhere on Mt. Washington is super crowded on the 4th. The top of the incline is not some secret spot. Plus, all those people who came up by whatever means have to go back down after the show's over.

Maybe somewhere on the Smithfield Street Bridge will offer a good view? I'll actually be at Station Square on the 4th for the Riverhounds game, and you can see them well from the high up in the seats, but I'm not sure about how they'd look from other points in that section of the city.
