In online comment sections, its pretty common to see insults or veiled suggestions about Peduto's supposed homosexuality. Even among liberal people with experience in fairly connected positions in City and County governments, there is a belief that he 'paid' his girlfriend to basically be his 'beard' during his electoral campaign five or six years ago...

I never understood the basis for the whispers, whether loud or quiet, about Peduto's alleged sexuality.

In my opinion - Peduto loves to jump on every Progressive bandwagon that he can, if he really was gay I would assume that he would be out about it so that he can score more political points with his base..

So I wonder - what is the basis for the constant whispers and insults about his sexuality? It is something that I never understood about Pittsburgh politics.

The basis is that some people are pathetic and must be unhappy with their own lives.

I'm always amazed and amused at the convoluted ways Peduto's critics will come up with to condemn bike lanes. He'll make a statement about helping homeless veterans and someone will be all, "maybe we can turn BIKE LANES into homeless shelters."

I don't get it either. I don't even own a working bike and I find the bikes lanes to be great. They have improved Oakland for pedestrians by a large amount and it hasn't hurt driving times as I've ever seen.

Its a bit odd, as folks dont use Bruce Kraus's open homosexuality as a basis to attack him.

The local news comment sections on social media in this city are full of the stupidest and most backwards mouth breathers I have ever come across. They clearly aren't remotely a majority though or else someone would have actually given a viable challenge to Peduto.

I don't bike but they don't bother me at all too. If anything has made driving worse in recent years, it's the surge in people driving for Uber, Grubhub, etc.

I guess it's probably because the mayor puts alot of emphasis on bike lanes while roads are crumbling, streets don't get plowed in the winter, drinking water is suspect, etc. In other words, the mayor's priorities appear to be at odds with what people want. That being said, perhaps ibike lanes are the media's priority and reporting on them.

Personally, I think it's because bike lanes take parking spaces and people have unreasonable expectations about being able to park for cheap in places where land is very expensive.

I'd be curious as to how many of those commenters actually live or work in the city.
