My wife and I will be moving to O'Hara near Kerr Elementary School soon. I'd like to people's thoughts on this elementary school. I know that the Niche.com rating seems to indicate that it's pretty good but when I ask friends/word of mouth, people make it sound like it's reputation is as bad as the scum of the earth. I know it's not as good as Fairview / O'Hara but is it really that bad?

Kerr is on the rise for sure. The information that it being less than the other elementariness in FC are a bit dated. It won't test as well overall, but that is due to Sharpsburg dragging it down. Sharpsburg is on the rise. Keep in mind, you are talking about the best school system in our region with great diversity and one heck of a lot of funds. I wouldn't have any issue with my kids going to Kerr these days. It is going to be better than most elementary schools in our area. No issues IMHO. Parenting is the most important part of a child's education then environment. No probably these days. People need to get with the times.

FC is certainly up there, but according to this, NA gets a better grade for diversity, and I’m sure their funding is top notch.

Our kids went to O'Hara. The real answer is it is all relative. I don't think anyone in the district thinks it is on the same level as the other three elementary schools in the district. It is up to you whether this difference is acceptable.

The biggest consideration is fit. Does this school fit your child. Will your child get a good education.

It's a lovely school, and it'd be my second choice in the district behind the one we currently send our kids to. Now that a Spanish immersion program has started there, parents from Fairview and O'Hara are competing to get their kids in.
