Hello!
In November we are relocating to Pittsburgh. We are looking for a studio apartment with the price range $400-500 in a safe neighborhood. The main thing here is a safety as we have a baby. We found a few options in Brentwood but we don't know anything about this area. Could anyone help us?
Thank you in advance.

It's currently safe, although a large part of the area is in decline.
*If you are not White/Caucasian I advise you not to move there though!!!

Although some of the indents are overblown, Brentwood is popularly considered the most racist suburb of Pittsburgh. If you were African American, I would not live there. Hell, if I were African American, I think I'd rather live in the ghetto than Brentwood.

I grew up in Brentwood and still living here (22 years old) and I would say its safe. I do live on the worst side, near Carrick. Yea its a pretty racist community and the school education isn't really that great. I'd suggest moving to Baldwin-Whitehall prefer South Baldwin since it seems pretty nice over there.

It's safe, just watch out for the police.

You'll be completely fine there. Brentwood is a bit racist, but not really at least compared to area's in the south. Thing you'll have to worry about with kids is the school district. Its just ehhh to not very good.

I think you should define how "brentwood is racist" to Mrs. Watts. I can't remember the details or I would. Give specifics.

So you would prefer Homewood to Brentwood?

Let's see the tradeoffs:

1. Live in a neighborhood where my neighbors like and accept me. If I keep my head down and don't get involved in gang activities, I'll probably be okay, minus the small chance of getting caught in crossfire.

2. Live in a neighborhood where many of my neighbors will shun me and see me as a sign of inevitable neighborhood decline, not a human being. In addition, a minor worry the police will stop me at any time and beat me to death.

In terms of actual physical safety, I have no doubt that Brentwood is better than Homewood. But once you add in the psychological factors, I think Homewood would come out ahead for many - and I'm pretty sure our black posters have agreed.
