Not the sector I'm in. I'm in long-term care. I'd take a huge pay cut joining a hospital system.

If you mean nursing homes, there have to be jobs closer to the city which will pay as well or better that open up from time to time.

Nope. I run the largest for profit in the state and 14th largest overall in the country. I make more here than in DC and I was doing great in DC. Most facilities are extremely smaller than mine and pay nowhere as much.

I may break my lease early and move closer to the area but I'm a city guy so I wanted to give Pgh a shot. Now I'm finding I wouldn't mind the burbs and just head into the city when I have events to attend.

Pgh is cool but not as many singles as I thought. And if there are I'm not sure where to meet them outside of bars and dating apps. Meetup events are pretty dead but there are some fun wine and beer classes I'm going to take advantage of. If I move to Beaver it seems everyone is married by the time they're 25 and have a bunch of kids. Again, I give myself 2 years tops in the area before I move back to MA or the DC area.
I think the reverse commute is bad because you are literally driving through the growth area of the Pittsburgh metro. From I-79 West is where new companies are setting up and most of the population growth in the metro is occurring. You are working in the growth corridor which is good. You would probably enjoy it here more if you lived out that way. It is a great area as well. The town of beaver is excellent.

Sorry to hear that Pittsburgh has been a dud for you so far. It is too far west to really have the eastern vibe you come from, but yet it’s too Far East to have the benefits of the Midwest. It’s kinda in a no mans land. Stuck in Appalachia between the east and Midwest. And I understand it is a tough sell if you aren’t from here. You will either grow to love it or hate it. There won’t be an inbetween for you.

Yeah, the traffic sucks for sure for quite a while leaving the city. I found a way to avoid the bottleneck of people trying to get on 376 by taking the McKees Rock bridge. That bottleneck is a total nightmare as everyone is fighting to get into one lane.

Pgh is ok. I went out last night with a buddy that was in town. Since I don't know many people here its boring for the time being. I'm hoping that changes at some point though. People here are different from DC. Being big, bearded, and tattooed seems to be the thing for most of the guys here. Definitely a blue collared city with some yuppie types sprinkled in.

Big as in fat? Just curious. That is one thing I've always thought compared to many other places, Pgh is not the most health conscious city but it is better than when we moved here 12 years ago.

Yes. I'm not talking muscle. I see lots of attractive ladies but their types tend to be the blue collar, overweight, tall, beard type with tattoos around here for the most part. Very different from DC where the majority of people are white collar and pretty fit for the most part. However, I find people in Pgh friendlier generally speaking.

There does seem to be less of an emphasis upon physical fitness here compared to Metro DC. I've noticed that too.

I use the gym where I live and it's always dead. In DC, there were always quite a few people. Personally, I love a dead gym as I can get on the equipment I want to get on. Just stands out in Pgh.

And less emphasis on eating healthy, also a pretty good amount of smokers still. Things have improved and there are some healthier options for eating now but whenever we cook for family people are confused by some healthy items we eat they have never seen.
