interesting take....i wonder what you feel about the african-american demographic, where infections are rampant (i heard 4x the general population). could it be that they didnt take this seriously? that they thought this was a "white disease" (as word from DC and baltimore has it)?

sounds like they've created a monster from foolish mentality.

The disease came from China.

What fiasco? Life today is the easiest it has been in history in the US and the western world. Or if you are talking about the virus, that would be China and their stupid wildlife market.

Wildlife market, as in you’re buying that as the reason for the virus?

I don't know, this millennial certainly doesn't fit your mold. I work FT (from home right now), and am pretty privileged in that regard. I don't need help, but know plenty of people of all generations that do. I cannot change that many cannot or did not save enough for a rainy day, all I can see is where we are right now, and the outlook is grim.

Selfishly, in addition to not wanting people to starve, I don't want starving people without basic needs being met to turn on people like me who are still fortunate enough to be able to work. There's the brute force method of self defense against riots (get a gun, protect yourself) or there is the more diplomatic approach (provide aid). Where you stand on this spectrum might have generational differences, but I am pretty sure it is not about entitlement, it is more about carefully considering possible outcomes and arriving at a conclusion that makes the most sense to oneself.

ETA: I am also in favor of paying additional taxes to fund this basic income, at least temporarily.

life today -
couldnt agree more. i know at times i sound pompous, but honestly i am appalled at how lazy and entitled people are, and how their personal decisions and choices have no consideration for the world at large.

china "wildlife market" -
not sure what you mean by this. but chinese history and culture? impressive, as are those of other nations of the far east....as is the american/anglo history and culture of the last 2 - 3 centuries. HOWEVER - based on their treatment of cats, dogs, and ocean mammals, and lack of action on illegal ivory trade (elephants are endangered), they can suck it for all i care. our 'chinese' food is better, anyway.

Pretty sure he’s blaming the virus on the Chinese wet market/bat excuse.

People in need have money coming and they are already asking for more. That is the thread title.

Of course the working provide for others, but as you can see no matter how much you give it is never enough. I believe in work hard = rewards, hanging around doesn't. More talent you can make more. Less talent and contributing less, you make less. The structure has proved to be the best method. If governments run everything like socialism or worse, then what is the motivation?

I am certainly not in favor of even more taxes. We are taxed to death already and get very little back from it. Just look at how poor all government things are run. Complete garbage and waste.

I might be in favor of more taxes - but somehow applied so slightly (literally pennies) across ALL sectors of the economy so that EVERYONE is paying (and no one can claim it is unfair). This is because our government is in tremendous debt. We have to start paying it off little by little, once this crisis is over.
