I have UPMC Aetna and was able to use him. The first knee I was home the same day as operation. Second I stayed over as the surgery was delayed until the afternoon. Both times they get you up and moving immediately before they will release you.
Robotics makes a more precise incision resulting in less blood loss. Takes about 2 weeks to get off the walker/cane. If you do your excercises both before and after surgery you should be back to work in 3-4 weeks. Only real pain I had was the day after surgery when the spinal block wore off.

Good luck!

I think you want Dr. DiGioia. Pretty sure this is his wheel house and he is the best in the burgh.

Thanks, Copanut:
I have to check with my UPMC insurance. What AHN hospital were you in?
I have had surgery at West Penn for a non-orthopedic issue and when I had other insurance, and it was a great experience. Also had surgery at Allegheny General and it was not so great.

His use of robotics is important to me and I'm wondering how that will help me function at home on my own after surgery better than traditional surgery. Sounds like you did well. Thanks for the positive information.
