we are talking very downtown aka pittsburgh proper, say from the wyndham over to the federal building and along penn/liberty to the bus station - places I am at, quite often - during business hours. after close of business the restaurants nearby only function to serve the high value hotels and show-goers. just ask them. then the plague shut down the shows, the restaurants closed as well and some of them just went back to semi-regular hours THIS YEAR.

you are right I am not a 'city slicker'. And prefer to visit pitt from the water and tie up. But the north shore tie ups are NOT the OPs area of travel. Im also not a drinker.

But since you mentioned manhatten, most businesses (yes, retail) pre-plague were open well past 9, generally 11 on weekends and of course the restaurants bars (of which their mundane theme bars surpass anything we have ever had) are open, pretty much all night if it has booze and music. I think closing time (pre-plague) was 4am. off 7th and 8th ave (where most people never go) they close when everyone passes out. if you say downtown manhatten that closes down, you mean REALLY downtown, like below 20th and into wall street. I have been on the observation deck of the empire after 11 many a time. and of course the village never sleeps. we would stay at the ole ale house until it was time to catch last train (1:20am)
Wrong once again. Downtown Manhattan was never the 24 hour section of the city. In fact downtown Manhattan used to get sleepy after 6pm. There has been a residential boom downtown recently. The area is more alive but pales in comparison to midtown and uptown. I am very familiar with the NYC metro.

I have to ask, have you actually ever BEEN to manhatten? from your description, no.

do you know what delineates down town, up town mid town? wall street, battery, the villiage etc?

I gave you VERY specific clues, having been there for the 11 years I lived in the area.

CLEARLY you understood none of it.

I’ve been traveling and staying in NYC all of my life. It’s obvious that you know nothing about NYC or Manhattan.
