Hopefully the place is filled, the tent camps are gone and everyone is rehabbed and finds meaningful work, right?

Some of the homeless are suffering from mental illness. Not to long ago we as a society housed and treated the mentally ill. This is no longer the case.

Tent camps now sprouting up in the Mon Wharf Parking Lot with accompanying garbage, filth and human excrement.

Hello, Mayor Ed?

Hello, Mayor Ed?
it will take him time to get to addressing the problem...you know, like 2 months before the next mayoral election.

Hello, Mayor Ed?
Maybe we will get a huge amount of rain and a huge surge at night suddenly. That would have nature solve our problem. I wish nature would take care of more, but humans keep feeding those who not only don't contribute to anything, they actually take away from us all. The selfish entitled lot of them. Most have rich parents I am sure.

Now you're starting to sound like Travis Bickle, GG. As a practical matter, I had not noticed folks camping on the Mon Wharf until Thanksgiving, and I've been down there on the trail a few times a month since June.

Hello, Mayor Ed?
He’s likely too busy crying something needs done, talking to the community leaders, crying for folks to come forward, looking to groom a new chief of police that won’t be a big meanie to the poor entitled criminals, etc… Still waiting for the social workers to whip these criminals into shape, especially with a police shortage.

This might seem like a weird question, but why is homelessness so much of a problem in cold climates? Why don't they all just ride the rails down south for the winter? WTF?

The simple and cheap answer is to buy them bus tickets to the west coast. They love homeless addicts out there, so it all works out.

I never quite understood it myself. If I was going to be experiencing homelessness long-term and/or indefinitely I would probably "snowbird". I would start walking south several miles per day in like September until I was in the South by November. I would then start walking north several miles per day in like March until I was in the North by May. That way I would rarely have to experience living outdoors in harsh weather. I understand not everyone is able-bodied, but the vast majority of the long-term homeless I see Downtown everyday seem to move around just fine.
