I do not think these amenities are a waste. This station was mostly funded by a government grant that was highly competitive nationwide. I would prefer Pittsburgh to receive this funding over Charlotte, St Louis, or Indianapolis.

The facility as well as bike culture will evolve over time.
I agree here. I think cycling is just starting and the younger city set doesn't want to drive a car as much as generations ahead of them. I have been cycling in this city since the 80's! I was pretty much alone on the streets unless I saw a competitive cyclist group, like Pittsburgh Pro riding all decked out together training. Or some kid riding a bike on a sidewalk. Now? I see cyclists everywhere ALL the time. It is just common, but I do think it will become more and more common.

Peduto did indeed do a great think for our city by promoting cycling. The safer it is for a beginner the better as the only reason people don't cycle more that want to is fear. I get that. A fair amount of people hate cyclists and are aggressive towards us. So long as a cyclist stays out of their way as much as we can, it mellows things quite a bit. I certainly have been threatened on my bike. Even had a guy shout out his window, "I will run you over". He then proceeded by me and literally pulled off that road in 1/2 of a block. I would have loved to shoot him as he threatened me, but best to move on. I am sure he was armed and would have shot me and then went out for ice cream or something. Yeah, that kind of person no doubt.

I think cycling will just grow. I wish it was safer, but it sure is better now with lanes and riverfront trails. Love it.

that was the plan originally - users paid an annual fee in exchange for security

then they sent out a survey to gauge interest in that plan and quickly realized not one person was interested

maybe should have sent out the survey before building it
A survey would’ve been the obvious thing to do. Wonder who profited off of the $366K build

And you questioned Peduto’s intelligence. Why?

He allowed countless illegal protests that blocked roads all over the city for 4 1/2 years. He didn’t get tough on crime in general. The mentality ill can protest, but the jammed up our city daily. What I find funny about these young morons protesting is they were just running around being led by the leftist media machine. Has anyone’s life improved since the idiot Biden got in? He is a clueless fool.

What difference does it make? City residents are the beneficiaries of the infrastructure improvement that includes the bike garage, redesigned busway platforms, ADA improvements /upgrades, landscaping and streetscape improvements. The area is beautifully designed and definitely an asset to the community. You cannot deny that.

In other words, no.

Simple and obvious. Not doing a survey and spending $366k for something that doesn’t get used is a poor financial decision, and the money could’ve been better used on another project.

I lived in the inner city during this time. I do not recall this. 4 1/2 years appears to correspond with your misery during the Trump administration. Could this have caused your misery? If I recall you admitted to alcohol consumption during this time. What you felt during that time does not represent reality. Everything you said is not true. Fake news. 4 1/2 years of unrest in the city of Pittsburgh??? I cannot allow you to spread that lie.

But it could not have been used for any other project period. The Federal government allocated the funding specifically for this purpose only. Use it or lose it. Same with the competition for mass transit infrastructure projects. No city in the US can fund massive infrastructure projects. Not one. The money was not wasted.
