I am a newcomer to the forum, I wanted to introduce myself and give a little background information on me.

I left the city of Pittsburgh in 2002 when I entered the military. I have spent the last 6 years or so of my life living in Montana. Montana is very different from the city of Pittsburgh, but was a very good time in my life. In a way i am sad to leave Montana, but am also excited about returning to the Steel City.

Everyone tells me that Pittsburgh has changed a lot over the past 6 years. I hope when I do make it back to the burgh next month, I find that Pittsburgh quickly feels like home again. I have visited over the past few years for a week or two and I must admit, I felt like a visitor in my own city. I guess it's normal to feel that way being gone so long and having my life revolve around Montana.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever left Pittsburgh for a period of time and returned. I am curious to see if it started feeling like home again to you. I sure do hope so. See yinz around. Thanks for any replies.

Hi Jday,

My husband and I are returning to Pittsburgh after 14 years away. We are very excited to get back and are looking forward to re-discovering our favorite city. I think being away makes us appreciate the Burgh even more than we would have otherwise!

After high school I moved to Kansas City to go to school. Within 2 years I was drafted by the army and spent over a year overseas. Even when I was stationed stateside and went home for the weekend I felt out of it like home wasn't the same home anymore and I was kind of like an outcast.

I grew up in the suburbs and after the army I moved to Shadyside. You know how friendly 'burgh people are and in no time I had a ton of new friends along with the old ones and things were better than ever. It took about 2 months to readjust but everyone is different.

Welcome Home!!

Thats exactly how i felt too, like an outsider. Your reply gives me hope that Pittsburgh will once again feel like home, and the city I loved. I will be heading home the end of next month so we'll see. I'm gonna give it my best shot.
