The local Dems just want to keep their phony baloney jobs as long as they can. And while they're at it, make sure all their friends and relatives collect a paycheck from the government as well.

Mayor Luke is a turd. I can't stand seeing him on TV and it really makes me gnash me teeth, especially when he's going on one of his pointless "Taking Care of Business" walks that do absolutely nothing but get him on the news.

Also, I won't go into specifics, but I've heard some awfully unsavory things about his personal life from someone I really trust.

Yuck!

I've heard unsavory things about him from someone who's worked with him.

I think local politics should be non-partisan. It works for Seattle, somewhat.

What I meant is that all politicians have mistresses, so whatever.

Completely agree--and I'm a pretty steadfast Democrat in national elections. My vote for DeSantis was my first (and so far only) Republican vote, actually. I think even having a viable Republican candidate (one who gets 45% of the vote or so), whether or not he actually wins, might help shake things up a bit. But one winning would be even better.

So local elections are nonpartisan in Seattle? Interesting. That's the case in Nebraska too, I believe.

Where I live in, it will be a cold day in hell before a Republican wins an election, too.

But we still have choices. At our last mayoral election, we had three Democrats run. And one Green and one Republican and a Libertarian.

A mayor is elected by a majority of over 50% of the voters on primary voting day. If no one wins by over 50%, on November 4th, the two winners are pitted against each other in a run off election.

If Pittsburgh did something like this, you would still end up with a Democrat.... but you might end up with a Democrat that doesn't "owe his soul to the company store", if you get my drift.
