My friend who was going to design and make a dress for a wedding (location wedding) in June has decided to take a break from the business. Now, I have to find a lovely, formal dress to wear to this wedding. I cringe at prom dressing stores and do not know of any boutiques that will sell the kind of dress I need for this event. Think evening gala more than prom. Any suggestions of places I could start looking? Was thinking of Jupe, Karma, Sugar, Bombshell Boutique but have not been to any of these places to know if they go formal enough. Thanks so much in advance!

Sus

Do you want specifically boutique clothes? ChickDowntown would definitely have something. You might want to check out EB Pepper, but I didn't really like their selection. There's a store called Occasions in Squirrel Hill that carries big name designers, and then there's the BCBG store in the Southside Works area.
Good luck with your search.

Check out "New York, New York" in Station Square. Totally unique gowns and dresses. Ask for Vinny.

There's also Catherina's in Oakmont. Carabella's is another boutique in Oakmont, but I don't think they would have the formalwear you're looking for.

Oh wow. Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that I don't own a car...so I prefer places I can bus. This will be my task for the month and will keep people updated.

Do these places cater to the younger and trendier crowd? I am deathly afraid of some of the taffeta and lycra ensembles I have seen in some so called high end stores around Pittsburgh. I truly do not mean to seem snooty. I am not generally but my mother will literally flip if I don't pick something perfect. Initially I was going to wear a gown I already own and adore but she vetoed it since I wore it to another wedding last year.

Don't bother with Four Seasons anymore. I went there last summer to buy something for a wedding I was attending as a guest. They only carry less than 10 styles now----all need to be ordered. They don't carry stock anymore. None, at all. I was very disappointed because that little building used to be packed. (It's not hip and trendy either.)

I ended up ordering online because I couldn't find anything I liked in the stores last year.

Is ChickDowntown the place on Liberty near 7th? If so, it's a great store with lots of tendy dresses, but it can be very expensive. There are some affordable dresses in there. Just don't be disappointed if you only see things you like that are over $400.

Another idea is to look at the non-boutiques. Nordstrom & Cache are both in the Ross Park Mall. The good thing about these two stores is you can look online first.

Cashe: Caché: Evening Dresses

All the ones I recommended (besides the BCBG store) would be extremely easy to get to by bus - there are busses that go to the southside but depending on where you live, it might take a while.
Chickdowntown and EB Pepper are very hip/trendy (and expensive as you would expect a boutique would be). Check out the websites before you got to see a list of designers. BCBG makes great dresses (are you familiar with the brand?) and are very trendy/stylish.
