I am thinking about buying a nice place on the hillside. The place seems almost too good to be true, reasonably priced, well maintained, great view, etc... seems like the neighborhood has got some mixed reviews. spring garden seems like an area I wouldn't want want to live in, at least judging purely on aesthetics... spring hill on the other hand seems to have a mixed bag on neglected property and property that has been maintained and/or invested in.

funny thing is I grew up in pgh and never heard of the neighborhood until I looked a house there!

I lived on Spring Hill in the 80s. Just like any city neighborhood, you have to watch yourself at night. It's not crazy dangerous, but you can't be stupid. My first husband, who grew up there, wouldn't let me take evening walks alone. He felt it was safe enough for us to take walks together though. Nothing ever happend to us or our vehicle the entire time I lived there. Nobody we knew had any problems either.

My main advice is to NEVER take the city steps even during the daylight. I remember once we were walking in the evening and we thought we HEARD someone being stabbed. It sounded like it came from the city steps. Without a word, we both looked at each other in horror with huge eyes and quickly walked the other way.

My grandmother lives in the Rhine/Yetta/Hashlage area of Spring Hill and it is very nice. Most nieghbors in that part take care and have pride in their homes and that part of the neighborhood is very quiet.

I was born on Spring Hill. Haven't been back there for a while now, long while, but it was nice growing up there. Everyone knew each other. And people did take care of their homes. I'm thinking that it might not be a bad place to live. And the place you are describing to me sounds great. You'll be surprised by the animal life you'll see there. Lot's of birds and deer. Which is always cool to see.
