Who are the best endocrinologists in Pittsburgh?

Health system doesn't matter.

I have gone to Dr. Swarna Varma before for a complete workup and she seemed pretty competent. She is located on Washington Pike in Bridgeville.

Hope this helps

Thanks for answering, highway29south!

I'm new to all of this. I know nothing about endocrinology.

Do they specialize in certain diseases?

In searching google, I noticed some say 'reproductive endocrinologist.'

I'm almost done raising my family!

Are there are subspecialties within endocrinology?

Cleveland Clinic has an Endocrinology & Metabolism Institute.

Maybe it's worth the drive if there isn't anything like that in Pittsburgh.

UPMC Presby has the Falk Endocrinology Clinic. I've not been, but a co-worker with a hyperactive thyroid had tests run there and had good things to say. I know that her doctor left the area, so I can't give you a name there.Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Medicine

In no particular order:

Patricia Bononi (WPAHS)
Janet Amico (UPMC)
Sue Challinor (UPMC)
Rose Salata (UPMC)

are people that I trained with at some time and have confidence in. You didn't say what, specifically, you were interested in but many endocrinologists actually subspecialize so you might look at the WPAHS and UPMC web sites.

Also, if you have a highly specialized issue/problem there may be a program, experimental protocol, etc., at either of these or other sites such as the Cleveland Clinic. In my own family we have used the Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins when conditions required expertise not available in Pittsburgh.

it took a long time to feel normal after I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism..... it's trying with a lot of endocrine stuff. In a lot of ways you're perfectly fine and yet you aren't and it's hard to pinpoint...

I told my doctor that I had all the signs of depression. Except the depression. And my doctor figured it out on the first test.
