Nobody has to throw anybody any bones. Most accidents happen with unnecessary lane changes. What you are doing, sorry to break it to you, is an unnecessary lane change, and while you console yourself that this keeps traffic moving, you are also invonveniencing the lane you're turning to, in order to let in somebody in who is too clueless to adapt to speeds while merging.

Further, by speeding up in the right lane to be accommodating to an oblivious merger, you are endangering others who may want to change into this (presumably slower) lane from one of the other lanes.

Finally, by slowing down, you're pi$$ing off the guy behind you, so again, how this keeps traffic moving' is a mystery.
