I guess you didn't read my original post to start this off. I said I live in the city, but don't consider myself a "Pittsburgher". Rather a resident of the City of Pittsburgh.

Why does it take ten minutes? That's a personal problem if you have to take ten minutes to explain something like that.

"So where are you from?"

"I'm from a town called East Pittsburgh, it's "x" amount of miles from the City of Pittsburgh"

That's not hard.

That's understandable. I'm entertaining. Reading a woman in her early 30's who claims to have "Self United Husbands" is like reading something a second grader wrote.

Sorry. It was long enough ago that I didn't remember.

What baffles me is why it's even important enough to get bothered about, one way or the other.

Good question. I have no idea what my keyboard did.

I guess what I was trying to say was "if you are speaking to someone from outside of the area, you say you are from Pittsburgh"

You don't need to get snobby about it. Apparently you never had anyone play twenty questions with you about it.

It's not hard, but it IS a waste of time. TMI. Nobody really gives a rat's a$$ where you're precisely from. It's just a BS small talk question. All you need to give is a rough approximation. If they happen to have a connection to the area you are from, then you might get into particulars. Otherwise it's pointless.
