Members of a panel of experts brought in to advise the Obama administration on how to address offshore drilling safety after the Deepwater Horizon disaster now say Interior Secretary Ken Salazar falsely implied they supported a six-month drilling moratorium they actually oppose.
"However, we do not agree with the six month blanket moratorium on floating drilling. A moratorium was added after the final review and was never agreed to by the contributors."
More deception and CYA from this administration. We ALL KNOW that this moratorium was snatched out of thin air for political a**covering.
And wouldn't you know, ideas that are adopted for pure political gain, with NO thought of the consequences, are destined to fail.
Quote:
The experts' criticism of the moratorium and effort to distance themselves from it come as oil production companies prepare to move mobile deepwater rigs out of the Gulf of Mexico, threatening thousands of jobs in Louisiana that support those drilling operations with supply boats and shoreside services.
Washington – Preliminary estimates show crippling job loss and significant economic impacts will result from the President’s recent order to halt work on 33 exploratory wells in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico and institute a six-month moratorium on all drilling in water depths greater than 500 feet.
“The immediate impacts of the order will be felt by the families of tens of thousands of offshore workers who will be unemployed,” said Burt Adams, Chairman of the National Ocean Industries Association.
Bipartisan pressure is building on the Obama administration to reconsider its ban on new offshore drilling, with Gulf lawmakers decrying the moratorium as an overreaction to the BP oil spill that will compound the economic damage the disaster is inflicting on their states.
Lawmakers and industry groups warn that the moratorium could cost thousands of jobs and drain hundreds of millions of dollars out of the local economy. That's on top of the billions of dollars studies predict could be lost from hits to the tourism and fishing industries along the Gulf.
Despite the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu is reiterating her call to end the Obama administration's moratorium on deepwater drilling, saying it will cause economic hardship in the region.
Speaking Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America," Landrieu said the moratorium was issued without much economic analysis and said the deepwater rigs in the Gulf "employ, directly, hundreds of people and indirectly thousands."
Yes, this is what you get with an inexperienced, divisive politician who responds to a disaster with a knee-jerk reaction intended to mitigate the political damage to himself.
How long have we been drilling off shore, in these depths and shallower? Very rarely do we see accidents of this magnitude and obviously the fact that the rig colllapsed had something to do with the preventer failing.
How much longer can we handle the unintended consequences of liberal ideas?
It does appear that the knee-jerk reaction was meant for political cover. Now its backlashing on him.
I have no sympathy for Barack Obama. None. Why? Because when you come into office pointing fingers at everyone else, its hard to reconcile that everyone else is a dunce when the fire is suddenly put under your own ass and your own incompetence is put on display. People at that point just want to say "Ha Ha You ****ing Dumbass. That's what you get." He should have thought of that before.
I say let him burn. Let him wallow in the backfire of his actions. And make him own up to them.

I'm willing to lose 10,000 workers in the off shore oil industry. This disaster can destroy if not already the gulf coast. I rather the lost be in workers, instead of the entire Gulf Coast Eco system. What about the thousands of people whom earn a living on the coast. You care for a foreign own company to make money over the Gulf coast...Unreal.
We need to put those workers in factories building green technologies.
So, which is it... first you wrote a post about a lack of action and now you write a post about over reaction. Pick a position and stick with it, or do you simply find bad in every single action taken? It is actually quite amazing, I have never seen a positive post from you yet. You seem to stand for everything that isn't.

There is really nothing positive to say about obama, his policies and how he governs.

I see it a little different from that, based on the two posts of yours I mentioned. You seem to create something where there really is nothing, in one post or the other. On a whim. Carry on.

She tends to flip flop in order to turn anything into a negative to try to make her point.

How do you build green technologies in factories?
And what technologies are you talking about exactly?
