I wonder who these people are that call in to talk shows and actually speak with the host on air. Sometimes I think many of the callers are plants.
What were your experiences?

I called to request Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London." The DJ didn't play it so I called back 2 hours later. He hung up on me.

Listening to liberals calling a conservative radio talk show is very entertaining sometimes.
I doubt they're all plants.

I think a few of the nationally syndicated callers are plants, some no doubt set up by the hosts but most by groups with agendas. Local shows are probably about 99% on the level. I've called local shows. I listen to one small town radio station where they let people call every day and they can even call back for a 2 minute rebuttal. You hear the same people call day after day, no different than City Blog or chat rooms where we post day after day. Talk radio is very big in Pa and its part of why the electorate and citizens are so well informed( or maybe that's why talk radio is popular, people care about the issues) and partisan politics don't dominate, at least in the suburbs.

5 times, baby.

3 times when I lived in Canada. Actually, it was a breeze getting through.

Once about a month before the 2008 election and the last not too long ago.

Rush actually had my transcript on his page for a while.

No plants on Rush, although the crazed liberals he puts on are strictly for instructional purposes.

And you won a trip to Transylvania for 'Dracula Bash 2000'......or something like that?

Radio shows are cool when you win something really cool off them, eh.
Sorry if you only got to go to Pennsylvania, though.

Once, on one of the talkers in NYC, I don't remember the host's name. I was nervous and defending some gal who killed her husband, I don't remember exactly why. I must have waited an hour, then suddenly the radio host was talking to me and leading me through my points, then he jumped to another caller. It was very fast.
